The following is a guide for adding a link to a specific, previous post from our forum in a new message.

Obviously, the first step is to find the specific post you want to reference. Using the "Advanced Search" feature of the search function is the best bet. Set the "Show Results As" radio button to "Posts". If the results bring up the specific post you were looking for, click on the link to the post that is just below the thread name and author. This will open the thread containing the post you want and centre the window on the specific post you were looking for. Now, just highlight the URL in the address bar of your browser, copy it and paste it into your new message.

If you have navigated to the thread that contains the post you want and did not use the search feature, the simplest way to get a link to that post is to click on the post number which is at the top right corner of every post. This opens up a new window with just the post in question displayed. Again, highlight the URL in the address bar, copy it and paste it into your new message.

Personally, I do not like the results of this approach. Anyone clicking on your new link will only see the post in question and not the thread that contains it. This means that anyone following it will not be able to see the context provided by the thread, nor will they be able to see any replies. Fortunately, there is a relatively simple fix. Below is a URL that was obtained by clicking on the post number and opening up a new post display window:

http://audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=13931&postcount=4 (http://audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=13931&postcount=4)

Edit the link to change "showpost" to "showthread" and delete "&postcount=4". This results in the new link below:

http://audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=13931 (http://audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=13931)

Clicking on this link will load the entire thread but centre your window on the specific post you wanted to reference.
