I just purchased 2 altec model 1234 speakers. Someone has really butchered the crossovers and I need to know how they were originally configured. Both have had one or more caps removed and they have had a wire around mod. I have checked everywhere for a schematic to help me, to no avail. Also, when were these units manufactured?

Hi Jim
The Lansing Library (http://www.lansingheritage.org/) has some information on your 1234 model.
Click here (http://www.lansingheritage.org/html/altec/catalogs/1978-mi.htm) to go to the 1978 Altec catalogue overview.
Your model is shown and explained on pages FOUR (http://www.lansingheritage.org/images/altec/catalogs/1978-mi/page04.jpg) and FIVE (http://www.lansingheritage.org/images/altec/catalogs/1978-mi/page05.jpg) .
I can't really help you on your crossover questions except to say that typically the Altec commercial designs were usually quite simplistic. Meaning; because the catalogue info does state that your model uses a 12 db per octave, ( 2 -pole LC type ) , with a 1200 hz crossover point - reworking what you presently have back to the original configuration should be quite easy to accomplish.
- Take note of all the crossovers' exisitng component, with any stated values and post that info here .
- Pictures of the crossover that show any capacitor values ( usually stated in mfd or uf ) would be useful .
