Appears as though he has a heel down on one record!!! Still, hardly the top of line set up he has goin there. Which is doing more damage.

This picture from your post looks like a Ford Trimotor, which makes me think there’s no way they could hear the music while flying unless it was at deafening levels. I flew in the EAA’s ‘28 Trimotor this spring in the co-pilot’s seat (Paid flight, I’m not a pilot) and had Bose Aviation noise cancelling radio headphones, which made it bearable. I was sitting right in line with the wing props, which were maybe 3ft away, and it was hot, so we had the side windows partially open. At one point, while we were climbing, I cracked the headphones to see how loud it was, and I have no doubt that all Trimotor pilots ended up deaf. Next to gunfire, which I have stupidly done a few times without ear protection, it was the loudest steady state noise I have ever heard - louder than any rock concert or jet airplane, I’m sure due to my proximity. A trip in one of these as a passenger was described as an ordeal of endurance, as you could not carry on a conversation with the person sitting next to you. On the plus side, you probably could play a phonograph on one, as the plane is so slow (stalls at 60, cruises at 70-80), that it is super smooth - turbulence feels more like a gentle up and down rather than the falling feeling you get in a jet.

Nice to see that you, and others, have stories to tell to these pics. I must admit that they simply don't tell me anything, I only enjoy the funny situations they were shot in and the comments ;).

Btw, Sir Thomas Beecham is well known for his quotations. For instance he once said to a cellist whose playing didn't amuse him:

»Madam, you have between your legs an instrument capable of giving pleasure to thousands and all you can do is scratch it. (https://www.azquotes.com/quote/693707)«
