8341783418Hi all, Glad to be able to pop in again after 10 years! I was digging through my audio elephant graveyard, and came across a pair of 288 horn drivers. They have the older wrinkle paint, but the labels are very hard to make out, pretty much gone on one. You can still make out 20 ohms on one driver. My guess is they are 288Cs. So my question: Is there any way to determine which model 288 these are?
Thanks
Dan

They look like 288B but it is impossible to tell from the outside. The chief difference is how deep the gap is. The 288B had a plate that limited how deep the air gap is. 288B diaphragms look like 288C except the B diaphragm v.c. former stops at the bottom of the coil. A 288C (e.g. the 20221) the former goes a little beyond. Note, GPA can remove the plate and effectively turn a 288B to a 288C (and recharge the driver as a result).

Oh Lord... I meant to say 288-Bs as to what I think they are...Brought them to the house to ring them out. Thanks very much for the insight!

I still say 288B and what is left of the label could be read as 288B.
