View Full Version : Difference Between 2445J and 2446?
I have a chance to get a pair of 2445J. Is the difference in diaphragm material -i.e. Al in the 2445 and Ti in the 2446?
How would the 2445J compare to my beloved 2441's providing they had the same diapgragm materials?
I need drivers for an upcoming 2397 based project......:smthsail:

:) They are both Ti; 2445J = 4", 2" throat, 2425/6 1.75", 1" throat; There are a lot of posts of preferences between Al and Ti, Alnico and Ferrite, good luck.

AFAIK there is no significant difference between 2445 and 2446.

The only difference I've been able to find in the documents for these drivers is regarding
the phase plug design description, in that the 2446 uses what is termed a "Coherent
Wave" design:

Do they sound any different? I wish I had the resources to find out http://audioheritage.csdco.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/smile.gif

Hello
The 2445 and 2446 are the same driver body. The difference is that the 2445 used a smooth dome titanium diaphragm with the diamond surround and the 2446 uses a diaphragm that has small ridges pressed into it making it stiffer.
The diaphragms are interchangeable so you can upgrade a 2445 to the 2446.
I guess at high frequency the original 2445 diaphragm would distort in physical shape and pressing ribs into the diaphragm helps eliminate the problem.
