Hi Guys, Can someone tell me what is used to coat power supply windings. It appears to look like a dried plastic like glue thats been painted black.

Also, what is the reason for it?

I am asking because some of it has dried out and become brittle on my HRX power supply. Some has chipped off and the windings are bare in a few places. Should I re-coat this with something? If so, what?

Thanks

Ken

Look for some stuff called Glyptal. That stuff won't come off though, so be careful where you put it.

Thanks for the help. Can you also tell me the reason for its application?

I believe for electrical insulation and for anti-vibration.
