One of my 416's is buzzing. I isolated the noise, removed the dust cap, and found that the disc glued to the pole piece has slipped and is resting against the paper. It's stuck in place.

Is there a way to remove and reset the disc without damaging the driver?

Thanks,
Darren

If it has moved like that, you should be able to get it up. You can try VERY carefully using Acetone or MEK around the edge to soften the adhesive. You want to keep it off of the v.c. former though. Just carefully work it.

Your driver has a hole through the pole piece to vent out of the rear. The plate covers that hole to have the driver vent out of the dust cap. That is its only purpose. There is normally just a ring of glue holding it down.

I was able to remove the disc and old adhesive. I reset the disc and everything is fine.
Thanks again

I am relieved that I have kept the two lf drivers in their original condition.
This issue aside, the cones are in fantastic shape.

These are late 70's, I believe with 416-16z lf drivers. The compression drivers were completely corroded, so I replaced them with GPA 909 16ohm.

I'll add that the 32b bent horn is really nice sounding. More mellow/less forward than the bigger horns.

Good on you. What kind of gear are you using to drive them?

I'm using a Toolshed Amps Euphoria stereo amp currently. 2A3's..though the photo shows it with 45's. That's where I started, but we're going to switch it to 2A3. Beautiful sounding amp from Matt Formanek. A Clearaudio Concept 'table with a 2M Black cartridge.
