Hi,

i understand the slopes of the cards are different, may I know if the 4355 cards (51-5145) are an improvement over the 4350 cards (52-5140) for the 4350.

thanks.

Not exactly what you are asking but my reply is probably close.

For my DIY 4350’s I have two 5234A JBL active crossovers, one has the card for 4350 @ 250 Hz, the other has the card offered for 4345 @ 290 Hz which I assume is the same required for 4355, at any rate I can’t tell any difference in the sound between the two crossovers

Thanks Vahe,

actually the cards for 4343/4350 used in the Urei are 300 hz cards. But the slopes are 12 dB / octave versus the 4345/55 cards which are 18 dB/ octave.

I just borrowed my friend’s Urei with 4345 cards and noticed a thinning of the mid bass region, however, bass lines seemed easier to follow now. Not sure which is supposed to be the ‘correct’ voicing per se and if I should invest in the 4345 cards though.

This is an old issue that comes up occasionally.

I just had a look at the manual of the 5235.

The 12 db 4343/4350 card has spread crossover points something like 230/300 hertz to remove a bump in the response when using a std 12 db Butterworth crossover slopes with these systems. The problem was measured with mic in JBLs test facility and they decided to customise the card.

Later when the 4345 and 4355 came along they decided that the 18 db 290 hertz card was a closer match to the acoustic crossover slopes required. There 18 db card is probably better and easier to set up. I hope this clarifies your question.

Hi Ian,

thanks for the clarification.
