I won an auction for a pair of LE85/H91 from a L200. They came with a flat steel metal bracket mounted between driver and horn. Was this used because the L200 mounting position required it or because the H91 horn can't support the LE85 like it is supported by the H92 in the L300 by 4 bolts on the front of the horn?

The driver is not "otherwise" supported in L300?

Well Yes and No.

The horn can support the driver just fine. The problem is the particle board baffle. In shipment the leverage of that 10lbs + weight at the end of the horn tends to break the baffle. If you don't plan on shipping your speakers or if you use plywood there is no need to use a brace. You can also use a padded brace from the rear that cradles the driver.

Zilch,

Yes and no. You mount the LE85/H92 to the front baffle through an access hole in the back. The plate covering the access hole has some foam sheet covered bracing. Not sure if the driver is actually sitting on the bracing when the plate is on.
