I'm about to recone a K130. I'm hoping to get as close to the original D130F tone as I can. I read a comment by Harvey Gerst that the D130F surround was coated with heavy (high viscosity) oil, not dope. Has anyone tried using heavy oil? How heavy?

As previously directed, Ken ( Upland Loudspeaker ), makes a fully assembled recone kit (http://www.ebay.com/itm/JBL-D130F-K130-E130-Reproduction-Recone-Kit-from-Upland-Loudspeaker-/271281387718?epid=537081817&hash=item3f29a178c6%3Ag%3AGK0AAOxy0QBSPF04&nma=true&si=LlMPLwVJey%252B4wplRKXaYGZzrOFY%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557) that'll give you performance as close to the original as is now possible.

Ken is currently moving shop so he may be a little hard to get hold of right now.

:)

PS; Can you please provide a link to your Harvey Gerst reference ? ( I think you may have misinterpreted his words about surround goop )

"It wasn't "dope"; it was a high viscosity oil we used to keep the surround from dying out."

I don't need a kit, I already have the parts. I just want to know what viscosity of oil to use.
