I read that the woofer enclosures for the K2 S9500 are two different volume sizes, tuned to two different frequencies. Does anyone know what the volumes and tuning frequencies are? I understand that they are different (smaller) than those used in the M95000 (which someone has already posted).

Also, is the owner's manual available anywhere online for the S9500? Thanks!

Here is the owner's manual at the JBL site.

Thanks, I got the manual! :)

Hello Steve

I own the s9500 and can tell that the cabs are different.
not much, but different in size they are indeed. The M9500
is either bigger in size, though they look smaller than my s9500
or they are an EBS configuration, tuned lower than "alowed"
for in room response..

I would also be very interested in this matter, if there is anybody
that knows how many liters of cubic feet they are couse I´m interested
in maybe plug the ports couse I run them only from 120hz.

I could measure them, but they are not only 4 sides to measure :p

Why did you wanna know this?

Niklas

The enclosures of the M9500 are as follows:

78 litres (2.8 cu ft) 35 Hz tuning (upper LF)
115 litres (4.1 cu ft) 28 Hz tuning (lower LF)

These numbers have been culled from the file M9500 om.pdf

Hello Steve

I could measure them, but they are not only 4 sides to measure :p

Why did you wanna know this?

NiklasI have two pairs of 1401Nd woofers (the same as the 1400Nd, except with a black pebble paint job). I am using a pair each in a single vented enclosure that I want to divide into two sub-chambers. Before I just divide the box into two equal halves, I would like to consider using two different tunings as JBL did with both the S9500 and the larger M95000. My enclosure is smaller than the M95000, So I wanted to check out the S9500.

Also, Thanks Jan for the info on the M95000. Now if I can just get the same thing for the K2 S9500 I'll be in business! :p

You really, honestly, truly don't need the information for the S9500.

Jan Daugaard is correct - the M9500 data is the data to use.

I will mention this only once and as diplomatically as possible.

"JBL has manufacturing and marketing constraints an individual does not have."

Think about that statement and hopefully come to the correct conclusion.Thank you for your response. Perhaps I was not clear enough in my original posts. I have already built a pair of enclosures that are too small to accommodate the alignment used in the M9500. Since I know that the S9500 enclosures are smaller, I simply wanted to see if using those alignments would suit the enclosure volume I already have. If not, I will need to build new enclosures. These are my manufacturing constraints, not JBL’s!

Ouch! What??? That came out wrong??? :(
Screw "diplomatic" then! :p

I keep forgetting that I'm here simply to spew data. :banghead:

It is utterly pointless to add any potentially pertinent information to the mix. :p

You are not here only to spew data. There is also the odd humorous comment.:rotfl:

Ok, Ok, I get it. So I'm a little dense! Please don't get me wrong, I immensely appreciate the information you provide!

<Sigh> Ok, I'll stop horsing around Steve. :p

What do you have right now for internal physical dimensions?

----------------------------------------------------------

BTW, has anyone noticed the lower M9500 volume and tuning is quite similar to the L250 and 250Ti?

"115 litres (4.1 cu ft) 28 Hz tuning (lower LF)"
"two 2.75" ID ports each having an 8.375" duct"

The port/duct on the 240Ti and 250Ti is 4.125" ID x 5.25".
The 240Ti is spec'd at 3.5 cubic feet and the 250Ti is spec'd at 4.2 cubic feet.

Using the old JBL tuning formula Fb comes up as ~ 35 Hz for the 240Ti, ~ 32 Hz for the 250Ti (actual spec was 28 Hz), ~ 26 Hz for the M9500 lower volume, and ~ 32 Hz for the M9500 upper volume. These mathematical tunings don't take into account any system losses.

Anyway... yet another case for tuning your own DIY boxes (complete with their own personal loses) for yourself. :p

The internal dimensions are 28 inches high by 15 inches wide by 24 inches deep. Construction is 1.5 inch braced MDF (not veneered yet). There are two triangular front mounted ports (at the bottom, using the walls and floor as two sides). They have an area of 16.5 square inches each, and are 11 inches long. The two drivers are mounted vertically on the front baffle, above the vents.

So basically 2.92 cubic feet gross per driver then.

Triangular ports make my head hurt so I'd have to go pop some Advil before going anywhere with that.

The stock S9500 volumes are spec'd at 2.0 cubic feet each.

Download something like WinISD from http://www.linearteam.dk/ and play around with these numbers:

Figure something like 300 W for Pe.

Make 'em how you want 'em. :)

Thanks for the info, Giskard. I was hesitant to use triangular ports, but it was the only way I could squeeze them onto the front baffle. In retrospect, I should have just used round ports on the rear (with the appropriate elbow bend).

The 2 cu. ft. stock volumes of the S9500 seem small. I used an Eminence design program (I think it's a re-badged Bass Box program) to come up with the volume I have. Anyway, I'll probably just build new boxes (I own the table saw and MDF is cheap!):D. Now all I’ve got to do is find some more time:hmm:.

Sounds like a plan. If you have the room keep those boxes for your next project... you know you'll have one, we all do.

BTW: when describing your internal volumes, you didn't mention cross bracing. I hope your boxes are well braced. Even doubled up MDF needs bracing to get the most out of it.

I did use some bracing, but it wasn't a lot. I used lengths of 2x3 lumber across each side and the back. When I build the new enclosures, I will divide the boxes into two sections. Do you think a 1.5 inch MDF divider will be enough bracing, or should I add more?
