Hello,

New to the forum.

I am in the process of restoring a pair of JBL L55 speakers, to their former glory.

I understand that these speakers used a JBL Le20-1 tweeter.

That being said, would a "standard" Le20 tweeter work / fit / sound better?

Other than mounting holes and protective screen, is there an audible difference? Will the LE20 fit, in the first place?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

The LE20 and LE20-1 are functionally the same - the difference being that the LE20 has the mesh. Just in case someone isn't aware, the difference between the LE20 and LE20-1 is the LE20 has the larger (removeable) frame and screen. They disassemble and you are left with the LE20-1 core.

I actually have a spare LE20-1 from my L55 rebuild. However, I would urge you to inspect the wire leads from your voice coil to the terminals. My bad LE20-1 ended up simply having a broken lead, an easy fix.

Cheers,
Ryan

Thank you, Ryan! It appears that I'll have to cut into the enclosure to make the LE20 fit just right - no biggie.

I bought the L55's with some weird motorola tweeters so they need to GO!
