I have been an Altec Lansing fan since buying my first pair of 846A Valencia's at the factory in Anaheim in 1967 ( I now have three pairs), but am also interested in Trusonic products. I want to build a home theatre system using 120FR's in front and center, and 80FR's for the rear. I need TS parameters to help build enclosures that will sound right. Can anyone help?
Thanks, Jack Gifford

If all else fails, you can send the drivers to us where I work (Audio Atlanta, Marietta GA, 770-499-0145). We actually have gotten enough requests for driver measurement, that we've instituted a process that for a standard $20 charge, we'll measure the complete T/S parameters of a driver, in LEAP/LMS. I will also give suggested woofer cabinet alignments... let me know the cabinet volume you plan to use, and I can make a good ballpark suggestion to let you get started in tuning, once measurements are done...

Regards,
Gordon.

Thanks Gordon, that sounds great. I have put a few 80FR's in other cabinets, but want to build these enclosures to optomize the performance. Is one of each driver enough to get a good read? I needn't send the Trusonic tweeters, since they are sealed, right? I will wait til after the Christmas holidays to send them.

Thanks, Jack Gifford

I don't have the T/S parameters, but you might enjoy this.

Here's a good database - unfortunately, it doesn't have any Trusonic:

Do we know what a "Toroid" tweeter is?

Yes it would be nice to be able to order the plans, but that would take all the fun out of making new ones. After Gordon nails down the T-S parameters, I will send them to the T-S database, so others interested in Trusonics will have access to them. Thanks, guys, you have been very helpful.

One should do it. The manufacturing processes at Stephens were good enough, that any minor differences in the drivers should "fall out in the wash"... there may be trivial differences, but they should 'cancel out' with respect of the driver response in-box.

Gordon.

Do we know what a "Toroid" tweeter is? I think that you do know, but I'll post this other page anyway.

I appreciate the copy of the data sheet. After looking at the one you sent with the Trusonic cabinets, I looked at the ones I am using in my computer office. I believe they are the same as the ones for 12 inch systems on the data sheet. Same measurments, same grilles. They are loaded with 120W's and a smaller tweeter that the 5KT. I am enclosing a couple pix of my speakers. I really think this site has some great speaker knowledge, and now that I have time to spend learning, maybe I can learn how to design cabinets to get best performance, rather than just trial and error. I may even become a JBL guy.

Every once in awhile I see some of these units pass by. I'm hoping to snag a pair of FR 150's one of these days soon as I had a lead from one of my friends who says they know someone who may have them. Will have to see what shape they are in first.

The problem was not with Gordon, I just got involved in some other things, and did not get the numbers posted. The 80FR and 120FR are done, but I haven't sent Gordon a 150FR yet.

Here is the 80FR

Do any of you know of anyone who can recone an 80 FR and repair a 5KT?
Thanks!

I once looked everywhere for someone to recone a 120FR, but every shop I tried told me that Stephens used an unusual sized voice coil, and that they couldn't get parts for a recone without going to a specialty place where they could be custom made. And that is spelled with big bucks. It will be cheaper to buy them on E-Bay, but you need to exercise a little care in choosing the pair you buy, and the vendor selling them. They are truly NEAT speakers.

PS. Maybe Gordon Waters can help. Try giving him a PM.
