FYI - The JBL 2397 is not a Smith Horn. The Smith Horn was designed for a small format driver, and in my opinion, sounds better than the 2397 for Hi-Fi applications. The Smith Horn is a six cell exponential horn, whereas the 2397 is not.

To answer your question; what you're suggesting is basically the Westlake monitor. That's if you plan on not using the 2440 / horn lens arrangement. Personally, I like the sound of wooden horns. However, being in close proximity to a 2397 with a large format driver can be unnerving for some at high sound levels. If a 2397 on a 4350 sounds good to you, then go that way. Only you can determine if that arrangement works.

Good luck,

HF

Thanks for the good info. Will there be a noticeable difference with the for the better with a Westlake OR JBL on top with this speaker as opposed to the existing arrangement.? My room is 19.5 x 29.5 x 9ft ceilings in a finished basement. I am using the 2440.
