Sorry for the delay in response to your pm but I have been having some logging in problems, so I have now re-registered under a different name, jpw retired. Prior, all my posts over the many years were under jpw. I am the former owner of Audio Video Logic in Urbandale, IA. I sold the store, which is still operating and healthy, to two of my employees who had worked for me for over 20 years. They remain a JBL dealer as well as representing many other high end brands.
I currently own both 4367's and DD67000's. I have not spent enough time with the M2 to give a detailed review about all the differences although suffice it to say that the M2 is more dynamic than the 4367 and benefits from it's DSP capabilities in terms of bass extension and linearity of in room frequency response. However the DSP is not a replacement for the sheer horsepower, enclosure volume and the best drivers that JBL puts in the DD-67000's.
So absent much M2 experience, the closest I can come is to contrast the 4367 with the DD67000. I will touch just on the more obvious differences to keep the post short.
The DD-67000 outperforms the 4367 everywhere with one clear exception. The drivers and horns in the 4367 are extraordinarily well integrated and it sounds much closer through the crossover region to the ideal of a one way full range speaker.
Other obvious differences exist (not all listed here) that may come down to personal preference.
-Whether it's the difference in the woofers or the enclosure/alignment, the bass on the 4367 subjectively hits a bit harder than the DD-67000 despite it's dual 15' woofers, although the bass does not extend as low.
-Also the 4367 trades away some attack and transparency in the upper range for still detailed but softer more "musical" presentation. On some recordings or with less than ideal electronics this can sometimes be a benefit.
-A listening distances of under 12 feet away, the narrower baffle on the 4367 tends to soundstage a bit more like a traditional audiophile speaker, where the 67 has a bit more of a wall of sound effect.
The fact that I have retired means I am in the process of relocating from Iowa to Colorado. Unfortunately there is no chance my DD-67000's will fit in my new listening room, so they will have to go in the near future. If anybody is interested, send me a pm or email me at [email protected]. They are in rosewood, about 3.5 years old with all original packing and in like new condition.
