A bit confusing, however I'm setting up my
l88 plus boxes, to work with a record player
for vintage record reproduction ( primarily jazz collegiate ensembles )
for now an have yet to purchase hf/lf components
for them, ( I have a 2105/le5-6 )

id like tweeter recommendations. Le's, 03x's,05x's,04x's...

i do not think a deep driving lf is necessary, ( d123, 123a )
any recommandtions in this area

Hi Brian,

In a straight two-way, I'd recommend the le25 or le26 because they both have a larger diaphragm giving good response down to below 2K ( the crossover point of the 2-way L88 ).

All the tweeters you've mentioned ( in fact, all the more modern JBL tweeters are designed for higher crossover points and are meant to be run in 3-way systems > they won't even do 2K without significant strain or distortion ).

The best site I know to get a real appreciation about the strengths of the cone-based tweeter ( le25/le26 ) is Troels Gravensen's most excellent Blog-Site (http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/Diy_Loudspeaker_Projects.htm) .

The two really relevant pages are ; the le20 vs the le25, a study (http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/JBL_LE20-25.htm) and the le26, a study (http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/JBL_LE26.htm) .

If you're going to run 3-way with the normal higher crossover points, the older 033 or 044 would be my choice ( for jazz oriented listening ) .

All the other metal diaphragm types ( on the used market ) will have some issues by now leading them to sound "tizzy" to one degree or another ( and in need of a finicky rebuild ).

Just my 2-cents .

Some Reading;

Le30 (What's This)? (http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?9228-LE-30-Whats-that)

Research Shows; The le30 was discontinued back in the 1960's after a pretty short product life ( ie; it was not a successful tweeter ).

They can't be repaired ( according to all the internet lore available ).

If the following trace is representative of a working unit ( & typically these traces were done after a repair, therefore > I would stay away from them ) .

76234

( In Case of Doubt ); that FR is not good // and the ( out of control ) harmonic content would make this unit quite un-listenable ( IMO ) .
