New Altec owner and member here . As I dug into the horns to confirm polarity I found one of the diaphragms stuck and unable to be removed . Does this effect the sound / travel of the diaphragm ? Is there any way to free this up without damage ?

Cheers
Jeff

What part of it is stuck? If it sounds fine and is normal in output level then the outer ring only must be stuck?

If it is low in output level and or sounds like breaking glass when driven, the coil may stuck or sticking in the gap.

Proceed with extreme caution if you have to disassemble it.

Welcome to Lansing!

Barry.

Oh boy!

Hammer time.

He's already been pointed to Rob's ( RobH3606 ) 2435h fix-it thread, How To Ruin Your Day! (http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?11490-How-to-ruin-your-day)

Mallets yes, steel hammers no ( IME ).

Ummm, Okay!

Here's one of the sister threads (http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/altec-lansing-model-14-horn-diaphragm-stuck.750360/) on this subject ( somewhat more developed ).

Fortunately enough I got it removed damage free . Now with both tangerine phase plugs loose what is the best product / procedure to remove the glue residue from the tangerine? Does anyone happen to know what they are made of?

One way is to call Bill at GPA (http://www.greatplainsaudio.com/contact.html) and ask him what's the best residue remover ( as well as what glue is best for re-attaching those tangerines ).

After-all ( when he makes a new 902 driver ), he has to do this very same procedure .

Telephone ( don't email ) as he typically won't answer "cold-call" emails.

Alternately, read this thread at Hostboard;Fixing That Loose Tangerine (http://www.hostboard.com/forums/f700/180636-fixing-loose-tangerine.html).
- and see if you can get Alien_Shore's attention ( to fill in the missing info gaps now that his pics have gone AWOL _).
