...I could not resist buying these for cheap!

....these really bring back some good memories of early sound reinforcement applications from way back.....

Anyway, these horns have considerable road rash but are in good working condition. My recollection of these were that they were dark gray in color from the factory. These horns appear be painted in a non-flat black paint, however.

What is the proper paint color for these vintage pieces?

How effective is an application of exterior liquid caulking to the back of the horns that is designed to reduce so-called ringing or is the ringing best addressed by mounting the horns in boxes?

one on the right looks to be the right color (medium to dark gray).

they were intended to be mounted, and ring like a bell if you don't.

I'd try rubber lining spray ... maybe Flex Seal (as seen on TV!)
... there's one from Rustoleum that supposedly comes back off
Flexi-Dip? Haven't tried it. Todd sprayed a small (2307?) exponential
horn with something similiar and it was -dead- afterward.

Not big on permanent mods, but anything that absorbs energy
in the bandwidth of the resonance will help.
