View Full Version : These can't be original JBL C45 Flairs right?

I picked these up at an estate sale over the weekend. They have the 375 / H93 horn , LE15A but also the prism slot tweeters. So I'm guessing it may have been an original S8 load and then upgraded with the 077 tweeters at some point later? The plate is Flair C45. I probably don't have space for these so I'm wondering if it might be better to part it out. I'm not as experienced as many of you folks with these so I wanted to ask... Does this particular setup have some value in the cabinets as-is more so than the sum of the parts. Thanks. Also, this is my first day here and I'm happy to find a group of fellow enthusiasts.749507495174952

This is as close to an answer as I've seen:

C is for cabinets, unloaded.
L is for loudspeaker systems, complete.

The C45 flair cabinet, like many other cabinets, could be loaded with a variety of component choices at either the factory or by a JBL dealer. A peek at the back of full line consumer catalogs from that era will show the options.

In fact the early studio monitors had the C designations before the pro divison got fully established.

Out of all the available configurations, it doesn't appear yours is anything that was offered.

I think they are C45 S8 with an updated tweeter. You should try not to part them out. IMHO

Thanks Jeff !

No problem, but I would listen to what oldsoundz says, he knows way more about this stuff, I just dug up some links.

The speaker placement / cut-out holes are positioned differently than any other C45 cabinet I've seen. If there were just additional holes I would guess it was customized but the layout of the front panel is completely different... Did JBL actually ship out different C45 cabinet configurations alongside the component options?
