I am now getting ready to build my mid high cabinets. They are mainly for Outdoor PA application and the longer throw the better.
The 12's (JBL 2020) are going to go in the the MT130 design with the 2445's on top. http://hornplans.free.fr/mt130.html

I want to build the horns for the 2445s and I am looking at the 2380 flat front design. of the JBL designs, what model horn would you choose and why?

Hi Todd,
May be easier to buy 2360A ....as its depth is round 73cm

Hi Todd;

How many will you use per side?

I assume you have looked up the 238X series for coverage and all?

It's funny, not long ago these horns were quite inexpensive on the bay.

I am not sure if you are buying the HF horns or are making them?

The venue and SPL requirement will really drive the decision of which HF horn to use.

Out doors usually requires 90 to 120 degrees of coverage per side. Will one 90 degree 2380 be loud enough?

If not, using a pair the 60 degree 2385's you can array them for wider coverage and not get 180 degrees wide.

If you need to get louder, three of the 2386's with it's 40 degree coverage will get you 120 degrees. The you start vertically stacking them.

If indoors, you will want to keep the sound off the walls so you only need a pair of 2365's or if you need a
ton of volume, a stack of 2386's. Lot's of possibilities.

Where did you find all the 2020's?

Barry.

the 2385's sound good since there will be two per side. Will they throw as far as the 12s in the front loaded cabinets? I picked up the 2020's from an arena remodel locally. I have 4 of each.

Also, are there some diagrams with "inside" dimensions somewhere?

The horns should outrun the 12's SPL wise.

Inside demensions of?

"Inside dimensions of"
2385s. slot depth and height, length and height of the other two angle outs, neck and so on.

Doesn't have the angles and such, you'd just have to infer from the dimensions given.

If the goal is to have some long throw horns, then perhaps the 2350 would be better at that. And they can be had for cheap most of the time. And believe me, they really are for long throw... ;-) and they have a 40° x 90° dispersion pattern.

Exemple of a sale at $250.00cad for a pair w/ adapters : http://www.usaudiomart.com/details/649096301-big_2_throat_jbl_2350_radial_aluminium_horns_amp_2 328_adaptors_rare/

JBL2350 sound definitively good, one of the best PA horn ever built up for a 2" driver, flat without coloration,
I own 2 of them since 8 years now, I'll keep them forever.

difficult to find something in PA application capable to beat them.

In Home horn application it's a different story.

As you can see...it's 1 or 2 of them for 4/6 midbass.... they are capable of 110-111db 1W-m

Say I have an outdoor venue and use a Direct Radiating system as a ground stack with 238x horns then use front horn loaded 12's and 2" compression's with 2350's from the light truss pointed to hit say 100+ yards out , surely I wouldn't have lobing or phasing issues would I?

I don't know what you would achieve with 12" drivers for outdoor sound reinforcement.

Perhaps you can go the proven way. Stack of midbass 4560 with 2350 on top. 4560 cabinets are dirt cheap too. Check Craigslist.
Load them with 2226 drivers. Perhaps two 4560 for one 2350.

The above shall get you great 80Hz / 10KHz range

If you need good lower bass, then buy a few bass bins with some more woofers

Thanks. I picked up four 2445s and 4 2020s. I was planning on getting 15s and 18s for a four way system.
