Hopefully the pictures will tell the story. One of the 035Tis in my 4412s stopped singing and tested open. So I took it apart and found the terminal leads had broken while the voice coil itself was still fine. So I took single strands of speaker wire and soldered them in place. Fixed. I hope this helps anyone now or in the future with an open 035Ti and likely other tweeters too.

Opening it up: two broken leads.

Add some solder.

In the slot and soldered to what remains of the original lead.

Got creative with the other side to get more solder on it. Ugly but works.

Glued them both back into the channels.

Back in the 4412 (ignore the rusty screw heads, I owe a call to the JBL service dept to order new ones).

Sounding great with my C24 and JBL/UREI 6260 taking over for the MC502.

I'm just a tinkerer and this is far from pro work, but I hope this helps anyone with a dead 035Ti or similar tweeter, a soldering iron, and a can-do attitude. :bouncy:

Cheers,
Ryan

Tips and tricks like that, especially well-documented with pictures, are always welcome and helpful. I have a couple of my own to fix. Thanks Johnny!

I did the exact same fix on my 4208s with the 031TiS. Thanks for posting all the details.

Nice work! Recommended to replace the foam cylinder insert if it's squished and turning to mush. I was looking at some 1/2" tall open cell polyurethane foam that was relatively soft (green color) but wondered if it was soft enough. Also whether it would hold up in a tweeter's heated environment?

Thanks all very glad this is well received. On the foam, I was fearing the worst but mine thankfully seemed to still be OK. I've read advice that the telltale signs of compromised foam is shrill high notes which I'll be on the lookout for. (Vifa used similar dome backing, albeit a more dense material was used, underneath tweeter domes in late 80's early 90's era Paradigm / Snell speakers too.)

This is a great thank you for sharing, unfortunately I think my 035Ti is done and I am replacing the diaphragms. Seems difficult to find the foam replacements any suggestions to use something else? I've seen a post about using felt to replace the rotten foam.

I have not replaced the foam myself but some searching turned up some leads ...

"Seawolf97" seems to be required. This should be the thread (for posterity):

I think they were working before but they're definitely not working now! It's not just you.
