2108 question

Im trying to understand the general idea behind the 2108, speakers. L212 & 4315 specific.
Maybe using a 10" mid bass in the L series was not going to work for space or other reasons, but whats the idea using it in the 4315 over a 10" midbass with a 3" vc.

Could I build a 10" mb w/ a 4" vc. Would any sonic benefits be had.

The smaller driver will have wider dispersion and suffer very few drawbacks for such a (relatively) small system.
