I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! :D

I would like to fulfill my dream of building some copies of 2397's or Westlake horns for use with 2441's-etc. Does anyone have knowledge of where to begin? blueprints? I have access to a fully equipped woodworking shop. After seeing Eckhard's cool stack, well, I'm inspired!. I saw some walnut horns on ebay that are inspired by Altec 511b's to further fuel the fire. After looking at the pictures of my Bud's set-up with 2435HPL's, I realized: NOT ALL HORNS ARE CREATED EQUAL and although he likes his, they do seem a little clunky when compared to JBL and Westlakes. I see that the vains don't look as refined and they are beautiful but crude in design. I realize that it is complicated for sure but I believe I can manage to get a good result with the correct information. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

hello

I have the same project too and I have complete plan to make a copy .
if you search on 2397 horn you will see Mr widget is more than an expert and send also a 3d drawing to make the throat adaptor if you don't have any .
I will make them in the next months in plywood or mdf with an oak finishing ; there should be about 2-3 cm thick on each side .I believe i will have to build a special support to prevent the throat adapter to the horn and my 2420 to break ! .

If you need the plan i can mail it to you but I am sure the "expert "on this forum should have better than I have ! .

regards

Gerard

Hi Gerard,

I think i read/heard that the 2397 is really suited for 2" throat, large format drivers. Something about the throat pressure? Anyways, thank you for your response and i will do a search on the subject (should have known better!). Good Luck with your project! TTYL, Steve G

Try these:

I thought I had posted a more complete drawing of the 2397, but I can't seem to find it in my searches. Here is a reduced size drawing that will fit the forum.
