Hello everybody,

I just bought a pair of "E110" speakers from Spain. But I am confused. The basket says 2123H, the cone says "E110" (?) and the dustcap is paper. The speakers seem to be original, no signs that they have been reconed. I asked the seller, he said that these speakers came from a PA company and they used many of them as midrange speakers in hornloaded enclosures. Who can identify them ?????

Thank you
Hjalmar

Recones.
E110 w/paper dome in 2123 basket. The surround gives it away..

That is what I also thought. Does anybody see if this is an original JBL recone ? The glue on the dustcap looks very professional done. Also the finish of the paper cone looks original.

They look good to me but there are others here who know better than me. Any other markings on those cones?

Agree. I also have a similar pair with that "professional" looking paper cap. They have E110 stamped on the back. They have been a good mid-bass and other experimental system driver for a number of years. I seem to prefer the aluminum coil (lightweight) sound (fast, transparent, lively) starting with D130 in the ancient past. You may have to tweak the crossover if using in a standard design. What Earl said in your earlier DIY thread. But, for DIY, they seem ideal. Sound best from 250 - 2500 Hz. MM

I found this from "Subwoof" in 2004:

2121 and 2122 are single roll **FOAM** like the 2235H.

The 2123 has double roll cloth like the 2225H

I have seen a few real old 2123's that have triple roll like the D/K/E 110

sub

Maybe these two 2123 are old ones with a triple roll cloth surround ??

Dear Hjalmar,

these have the lead wires towards the flat side of the basket. 2123 were also made with the terminal on one of the spokes (i.e. 45 deg angle).
Maybe someone here knows which of the two basket versions is ealier. And that should then answer your question if this might be originals.

If they are not, it surely is a *very* clean recone job done !
Cone kit of 2123H carries "65287", 2123J has "66287", E110-8 "29795". In fact i think five digit numbers are more usual.

I have a date stamped on both of the cones: August 20 and 23,1984.
I measured the fs, it is 88Hz. That is more like a 2123 (85Hz) than a E110 (67Hz).
Does the arcordian surround have any advantage over the m-roll surround ?

It looks good on my RTA, stock 4343 crossover with 1.8mH and 22uF. Ashly XR1000 set at 300Hz.

Well, design goal is to have nearly all stiffness come from the spider as the suspension should only help ensure to provide proper forward/backward-only action plus some damping to the waves travelling inside the cone material towards the edge.
So in theory it might be you have a 2123H spider and E110 cone-plus-surround.

I can't feel your cone from here, but the K110/E110 paper is much thinner than what you get on a 2123H.
Plus, the 2123 is slightly curved whereas the '110 cone is straight-sided.

Hope it helps,
Ralph

Good Morning, Chevelle,

May I ask, what is the brand and model of your RTA? Looks like a good unit. Thanks for the info, and congrats on getting your interesting JBL 10". Recone, I think, but VERY well done, and it looks like it will work nicely for your intended purpose. Take care, and God Bless!

Every Good Wish,
Doc

Hello Doc,

my RTA is a Behringer Ultra Curve DSP 8000, in Germany you pay 40€-80€ on Ebay.

Hello Ralph,

after looking at the backside of the cone very careful I could see "2132H" written with chalk. You can hardly see it because the cone is over30 years old. Also the cone is slighly curved. So I think this is an original 2123H from early days with acordian surround as Subwoof wrote.

It was my understanding that all the OEM JBL cones had a 5 digit part number. The >5 digit number printed on the cone would suggest it is an aftermarket part, as would the mis-identification of this unit as an E110 or equivalent. It may be a frankendriver amalgam of the 2123 frame with a different aftermarket recone?
