So I have been trying to figure out the midrange issue...2122s in short supply (from my research so far for the past couple of weeks) and recone kits are spotty at best. I am learning more and more and talking with the guys at BackStage in Virginia (JBL servicer) I got some good tips and finally landed of the possibility that I MAY need to go aftermarket *gasp* for a re-cone kit. (of course he doesn't install aftermarket kit but said he could help me find someone reputable that would and pointed me in a good direction)

well apparently one of the big differences between most of the aftermarket kits A) If they come from someone other then MWA out in Arizona...it may not be the best quality and B) one of the important things in JBL re-cone kits is the edge wound voicecoil instead of a roundwire voice coil

EDIT: AND most importantly...that the voicecoil is the right size. .170 not .400 as in the speakerexchange kit. Well so much for that...

Well this is what speakerexchange had to say about their 2122H DIY Kit.

"We get our parts from many different suppliers.
Our 2122H aftermarket kits have edge wound coils: http://reconingspeakers.com/product/jbl-2122h-10-aftermarket-recone-kit/

Thank you,
xxxxx (gracious employee)"

Voice Coil: 3.0″ inside diameter, 1.240″ form length, .400″ windings (source: http://reconingspeakers.com/product/jbl-2122h-10-aftermarket-recone-kit/)

coil: 0.17 in. long, 52 turns, copper ribbon wire(source: http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?10637-2122H&p=110497)

The original design is underhung. Not sure the aftermarket kit would be with twice as long a coil...

Yea I was emailing some folks and that was mentioned. Well thats frustrating. I am in talks with Upland Loudspeaker to possibly see if I can get one custom done with the right voicecoil.
