Hi Guys

New to the forum

I am about to take the plunge and get a pair of 4435 with modification with 2405 added, with Hovland caps and external crossover

I plan to drive with two einstein LITD hybrid stereo amplifiers

Am I crazy, or making a good decision

I heard this system in a not very good room

The bass was not right cos of the size and brightness of the room, but mids and highs were exceptionally good

Thx

Andrew

If you're crazy then so am I. There's no reason that shouldn't sound really nice.

Welcome to Lansing Heritage.

I hope you like them, I sure like my 4435's.

I believe your new speakers were the subject of a thread here from when they were modified several years back.

All the best,
Barry.

Hi,

The bi-amp switch was removed and all components not required when in bi-amp mode. All resistors were changed to Mills and all capacitors changed to Hovland Musicaps.

The crossover to the 2405 is not technically a true crossover as the circuit for the compression driver remains unaltered (hipass at 1kHz). Joe got a hipass for the 2405 from a local supplier who deals with JBL Pro gear. It was a simple LC hipass at about 10kHz. Joe did all he testing with that and was very happy with it so I just incorporated it into the main crossover board.

Being an Electronics Engineer I was not so happy technically with the concept of not using a true crossover but it did sound fantastic so I was hesitant to alter the JBL designed drive to the 2425. So above 10kHz the 2405 and the 2425 are used. Purists will waffle on here blah blah driver interaction blah blah but it does sound great and switching off the 2405 kills the top end by comparison.

Ditching the LF 2234 and replacing with a SUB1500 is a wise move. Joe did this when using this pair and my brother also in his pair. Improves the low end significantly.
