Hello all,

I recently purchased a used Peavey bass guitar cabinet. I removed the speakers after the lower speaker stopped functioning, and I discovered that the upper (and still working) speaker was this Altec model 515 (see pictures). The Altec speaker appears to be working at full capacity, and the cone looks to be in good shape. I'm clueless on the topic, so I'm curious which model of 515 this speaker is, and how much it might be worth, because I am in interested in selling it ASAP and purchasing new speakers for my now empty guitar cab.

Thanks for any help.

Holy sheit.

Take those out of the amp and don't use them for a instrument amp. Those speakers are probably worth more then what you paid for them amp.

There vintage speakers used in bass horns for movie theaters. There worth about 800 bucks a pop for a working driver.

Nick

Nice score by the way. Oh and there a 515b I believe.

Thanks for the response Nick. The speaker in question was only played for about 5 seconds to test if it was functioning. It's still in the cab, but only for safekeeping, it's not being played at all.

How do I tell if the driver is working as it should? Like I said, it played fine through my amp, and when we tested the speaker with the multimeter it was reading 12-14 ohms.

Additionally, any advice as to how I should go about selling this? Do you think there would be any interested buyers on this forum? I'm completely out of my element here.

Thanks.

Your speaker seems to be an older 515 not the 515B. Old is good. However, if it is not original than it is not so good. I am not 100% sure, but I think the cone might not be original. Maybe someone more knowledgeable thank me can chime in. I think $800 might be too high a price if it is not original. Good Luck with the sale.
