JBL K2 S9900 Beryllium

Hi guys,

I have a pair of K2 S9900. And i am wondering what would be the best upgrades for those speakers.
Is it posseble to innstall beryllium diagraph in the midrange compressionsdriver without modifying the crossover?

Is there other upgrades that will enhace the K2's performance?

What is it you feel is lacking with your current setup, and that you would want to upgrade?

Without specific goals, and without knowing your current setup, here are four upgrades I could think of, in no particular order:
- work on the acoustic aspects of your setup and room
- have a professional come over and EQ your speakers
- add subs
- actively bi-amp your speakers using a DSP unit with precise EQ and slopes

Of course these four aspects are linked together and could/should be done in the same time.
Chances are that the final price would be lower than a pair of (unobtainable) 476Be drivers, and the benefits would be much higher.

It's not often I read something on an internet forum and agree with it 100%, but IMO, that's all great advice.

Just got back from a trip to TiDome's where most of those were implemented.
(The room EQ was left for later). The result was beneficial. The bi-amp EQ curves
suggested are readily available.

I'm pretty sure the crossover would require modification to pop in a set of 476Be drivers,
and there's no guarantee it would provide an audible improvement, whereas the suggestions
above have already demonstrated such.

I am thinking is it possible to swap the 1500Al-1 for 1501Al-1 in K2-S9900?

I know at the sensitivity is different between those two woofers 95db for 1500Al-1 and 92db for 1501Al-1
I am sure at the low notwork need some changes but will it match with the sensitivity of the mid and high network?

Hi Ari
With a passive network a change of impedance will not only result in a different sensitivity: frequencies of passive corrections (filters, notchs, etc.) will also get shifted.

the best way is to go for the original components

the only thing I am sure is I can use 045Mg instead of 045Be-1 with out change of the UHF network

You should not modify such expensive speakers, any mistake will lessen their value.

I would never do that with original K2-S9900 that are great like it is and one of the best speaker out there

bu if you have S9900 enclosure there is nothing wrong to ask questions about some changes in the driver part
I am also agree with pos, I think at the Everest woofer should on be used in pairs like they are made for
1500Al-1 is the woofer to go for. like you see in the technical info 045Be-1 and 045Mg are close to be identical and use same filter in both DD65000 and DD67000
