:confused:Has JBL ever made/marketed a dual 18 inch studio monitor?
Maybe something from the custom shop?
Soundworks, a San Francisco recording studio was promoting their "soffit mounted dual 18 JBL monitors". I didn't recall JBL making any such animal and was curious. When I contacted them it turned out they had three 4435s for the front monitors. Impressive, but they are dual 15 inch monitors not 18s.
I have seen Pioneer/TAD installs using dual 18s, and I believe Westlake still makes a refridgerator sized speaker with dual 18s, but I never heard of a JBL model that used that much oomph!

Hi Glen

Haven't heard from you in a long time.

To my knowledge JBL has never built a twin 18" monitor. It wouldn't surprise me if there were some out there. A large number of the main monitors in the top studios are custom units designed and spec'd by accoustic consultants. Chances are that some consultant has worked with twin 18" JBL's.

I have build four cabinets with 2245H and two 4430. That`s nearly the same...and it has the oomph!!!

Hi Ralf,

I'll bet it has the oomph!!!

I'd like to learn more about your system. What cabinet design you chose, crossovers, power, etc.
Are these your personal speakers, or something you built for a client?

Very impressed,

Glen

Glen Hi glen,

I`ve build it for myselve. The idea was to create a subsystem which is able to go down to 16Hz (first for my 2 4530, but now for 4430)
Read the threat How to get 16Hz (http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=1126&page=5&pp=15&highlight=16hz)
You will find the dimensions and some pictures of the project.
Next step was to build 2 4430 Studio Monitors. DIY 4430 The Beginning (http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=1244&page=5&pp=15&highlight=DIY+4430)
The 4430 have the original passive network, build with better components.
At the moment the 4430 are driven by a Yamaha MX-1000 and the 2245 with a bridged PAS Audio 4002 PCA (2,4kW). The cutoff is 80Hz/18dB for the 2245, realized with a BX6-modified JBL 5235A network. The Preamp is a Yamaha CX-830 (Direct Source, no EQ, no bass or treble regulation, pur signal), CD is a Sony X222ES.

Here you see one of the 2245s and one of the 4430s:
