View Full Version : Enhance the Finish On Black S-38’s and PT-800’s?

Hi All.
So, I scored a pair of S-38’s, black with copper color cones in MINT but dusty condition for $250 off of Craig’s list. They cleaned up fine, and the finish is fine, but how would you recommend I improve it? I was thinking of using a bit of Formby’s on them, but thought I would check with the pros first. They will be for rear surrounds, with PT-800’s and the 600 center already in the front.
Any ideas you have would be great. Thinking about it, the PT-800’s need more TLC than the 38’s, so any ideas for those would be great also.
:)

They're covered with vinyl, so wood products probably won't do much. I just dust mine once every six months or so, they're fine.

The PT800/PC600 are black stained ash veneer. Treat it like you would any veneer. I'd avoid anything that adds gloss, but that's personal preference.

I'm not sure about the S38, but I have a pair of S26 that appear to be veneer. The only way to be sure is to pull the woofer and look.

Black ash or cherry vinyl... not real wood veneer. Of course there is nothing stopping someone from stripping the vinyl and applying a nice real wood veneer on them. That would be nice.
