Hi All,

Anybody have any experience using the L94 lens with the 4355's? I know the 2308 is the standard lens but was hoping for opinions as to the sound from the L94 with the 2441/2311 combination.
thanks,

mk

As with any acoustical lens, they play havoc with high frequencies. It's no wonder why JBL finally saw fit to accompany them with a tweeter. I'm sure you know the L94 was used in front of an LE5 in the L220 system? Two 2308's, AKA 2325, were also used in front of a pair of LE5's in the 4380 system. With the 2311 you're almost obligated to use a lens. A 2441 behind a short horn like that will burn a hole in your skull.

I'm sure you will get some good advice from folks on the forum, but the only one who can determine if the L94 will sound acceptable, is you. If you have a pair of L94, give them listen for a week or two. If by then you can, or can't hear a difference, you'll know what to do.

Good luck, H.F.

Hi JBLPRO,
I think that 2309 horn is compatible with 2310 Lenses, while 2311 horn is compatible with 2308 lenses.
From the attached file it can be seen that 2308 seems to have 'smother' horizontal dispersion at the higher ( say up to 10kHz) frequencies than 2310.
I have quite good experience with 2308 & 2311 & 2441 ( with Radian diaphragm), unfortunately I have no experience with 2309 & 2310
I think that the combinations such as 2311 horn with 2310 Lenses would not be optimal, as 2311 horn is short and its mouth is small ( about 4-inch in diameter)

If You are looking for the network solution may be interesting here:

...except that an L94 lens is not a 2309 lens, although it appears similar.

As a dispersive element for a 4" exit horn (vs. the LE5-9 it was in front of
on the Oracle/Disco model), for midrange use I'm not seeing a huge problem...
and it has unusual visual interest.

Worth reading the entire thread we've both now pointed at :)

Hi grumpy,
You are right (as usually) about L94, as being lenses designed to fit 5 inch mid-range cone type drivers, while 2309 fits 2310 horn.
Here are 2309 & 2310 with 2445 driver FR response and the dispersion in the horizontal plane.
May be can be compared with 2308 & 2311 response and the dispersion.

The L94 is a mini-serpentine lens. You can put it in front of anything you want.
The L91 is a mini-slant plate lens. You can put it in front of anything you want.

And yes, we did put an L91 in front of an LE5/2105. The L94 worked better within the baffle recess of the L220/L222. The only reason for the baffle recess was to time align the voice coils. The only reason for the lens was to then try and fix the result of the baffle recess. The only reason for the 076 was to align a slot loaded ring radiator voice coil with the LE14 and recessed LE5. It was basically a waste of time and resources. But, whatevski, some people liked them and bought them. ;)
