View Full Version : How to clean a bass cone?

Any good advice how to clean a bass cone?

I've tried useing "Cyber Clean" as several said is very good, it helped a lot but no chance With water stains like this:

You can't clean it anymore, the only way to make it look decent is black dye or a recone.

I'd be tempted to use some water based black dye in a spray bomb set to fine spray. It'll soak in quick, dry almost immediately. It won't add any weight to speak of. You could do as many coats as required making sure each one was dry before the next. However I wouldn't make sure the first or any coat was a 'good coat'. Take your time and do it gradually.

The only advise I will give, is leave the cone alone. Do not apply water based anything for any reason. If your dead set on dying the cone, I recommend that you call JBL before doing so and get the opinion of someone at the service center, preferable not the janitor or a stock clerk. It appears that your cone has already been subjected to some degree of moisture, adding more may cause the cone to deteriorate.

I just had to try on a few of my 2227H.. mainly used Cyber Clean (http://www.cyberclean.net/cleaning/en/Products/HomeOffice.html), but also a tiny bit of water on the places With the worst water stains:
