View Full Version : Is PT-F95HF a meaningful sonic upgrade from 2332?

Hi

I’m running 2332 horn with 2451Be drivers and figured that it might be time to look at a newer horn. Limited space makes using the bigger horns difficult.

I have read what I can find on the new compact waveguides but I can’t really find any sonic comparison between 2332 (DMS1 alu horn 1,5”) and the newer PT-F95HF (square 90x50 plastic 1,5” ). Any information as to if a swap from 2332 to PT-F95HF would be a meaningful sonic upgrade would be much appreciated.

An alternative would be SAM1HF but I think they may prove very difficult to source without the drivers and I already have the 2451Be’s and the 045Ti’s. –And I prefer the 4” drivers.

I’m currently planning for 2206H below, 2451Be’s on either 2332 or PT-F95HF and 045Ti’s on K2 9900 horns above. XO is planned to 11-1220 and 10k-ish between driver and 045*s. This would be backed up by two existing SUB1500 units below 80Hz.

All input appreciated and also info on how to source the above mentioned horns would be very welcome.

Best regards

PT-F95HF (square 90x50 plastic 1,5” ).

Hi

You mean rectangular right?

I had the two at one point (2332 and PT) and I think they were identical in dimensions.
The baffle bolt pattern is different: http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?31311-1-5-quot-shootout
The compression driver bolt pattern is also different: the 2332 has both the 2451 and 2452 pattern, whereas the PT only has the 2452 one (2450SL, 2452, 476, 2435, D2430K, etc...)

Here is a response comparison with a 2452H :

Hi Pos,Yes, the rectangular one.Thank you for the input, spot on what I was looking for. The curves seem rather similar. Is there to your ears a sonic difference or prefference? I don't have the dip at 11k on the 2332 with my 2451's. I have both 50sl's and 51's so I should be fine with either bolt pattern.Where did you get yout PT's?Best regards

I don't have any meaningful sonic comparison to share I am afraid: I only really used the PT...
I got them from 4313B some times ago
I think that now you can only get a plastic version.

Here are some directivity measurements (2450SL-Be with EQ applied) :

horizontal:
64069

vertical:
64070

I think the 2332 might maintain its 90° horizontal pattern a little bit higher thanks to its slot (hence the on-axis drop compared to the PT), but I cannot find any interesting measurement on that and I might just not remember correctly...

I'm wondering how the plastic (cheap version of) PT-F95HF can be attached to 2450 / 2451.

I mounted some 2452s up to a pair, and they have the same 3 1/4" mounting pattern as the 2450SL. But I can't remember if there was a second set of holes for the 4 1/4" pattern of the 2451.

Not on the original version at least, and I doubt they would have included this outdated bolt pattern on the newer version :p

I'm sorry, but I'm a bit confused.
I have 2450SL, and the current plastic version can be attached to them (2450SL)?

Yeah, the 2450SL will work. It looks like a 2451, just different mounting bolt circle.

Thank you for all the good info.

It would be valuable to get an idea of the sonic differences, if any. There should have been some progress from DMS-1 to these waveguides.

Talked to JBL and they had a few in stock so may I just have buy a pair and test. Price had gone up a bit and was now just under $200.

I will also post a new topic on these as to if there is any advantage to mount them horizontally

Kind regards

Hi sebackman,

Some of my experience with 2441AL, 2445Ti, 2445Be applied to my horn 'inspired' by H66k.
It seems to me that only 2441AL can be a 20kHz candidate

regards
Ivica
