Hi All,

I'm just curious what the general concensus is on the newer JBL stuff. I've helped a few friends setup relatively inexpensive home theatre systems using S28's, S38, etc and the results were actually quite good (for the money). Just curious if anyone else here is using or has used the newer stuff and what you think. I'm also sort of curious how the big ones (S412) and the recent subs sound.

I know they aren't going to be sought after in 10 years like what most of us have, but still - if you had to buy new and you didn't want to spend huge $$$, they are a compelling choice....

I like the sound of the S-38s. I haven't heard the bigger ones. I don't like the Northridge series at all.

I bought a PB12 down firing sub, it has a good low end.

I hooked up a pair of S312 and L100 (2 pairs - L100 Century and L100) and compared them. The L100 highs/mids were impressive compared to the S312. I preferred the bass of the S312. This may be due to the larger cabinet size of the S312. The L100 bass seemed muddy. I A/B'd for some time and liked the more balanced sound of the S312 and stored the L100. I ran them through a Denon DRA-685, 100w/ch.

The S3100 has been talked about quite a bit on the old forum. I believe it is an absolutely fabulous transducer. Better by far than my old Quad 57's and also the Lowther TP1. What I do not know though is how they compare to the older 'classic' JBL gear as I have never, believe it or not, really heard any of it. I would like to know what someone who has had experience with both thinks.

I think that the newer studio series has nothing in common with the S-3100, thats a much better and more expensive speaker.
