I have a chance to get some Altec Lansing 1205a for a good price. Not familiar with these. Would they be good for listening and how would they be hooked up? {They have 1/4" plugs} There is not a lot of info online, just says they are self amplified and made with Voice of the Theatre components. So that means they can be called Altec VOTTs right? I have Klipsch Forte's now how would they compare?

PS Thanks for the add.

Take a pass ( assuming you want to use these for music playback ) .

That model ( as well as most of the others in that series ) are public address cabinets that use components that were chosen to accentuate the voice range .

If you want full range music from a 1205a , be prepared to swap in some 416-8B/C woofers, 802-8G compression drivers & updated crossovers ( to something like the 1201-8a network ) .

Thanks Earl, most of my listening speakers are from Arkansas. The guy sold them out from under me. Oh well. Never had any Lansing type speakers, thought I'd give it a shot maybe next time.
