Meyer modified 2450S, suitable for Truextent?

Hi!

There seem to be a few Meyer-modified JBL drivers out there. Searching for JBL 2450 + Meyer gave me this:

For example, in the case of the JBL 2450 4-inch compression driver, our modifications involved replacing the standard plastic connectors with more reliable gold-plated terminals and replacing the titanium diaphragm with an alternative aluminum alloy version for lower distortion. We also rebuilt and damped the stiff 'diamond' metal suspension to extend its life by reducing fatigue and also sealed the voice coil so we could use ferrofluid cooling to improve power handling.

I intend to buy Truextent Beryllium and need cores in OK condition. To prepare for the Truextent the gap must be cleaned for ferrofluid. But does the sealing of the voicecoil represent any potential problem?

Welcome to Lansing Heritage! I'm glad your here.

I have bought some of those in the past and the sealer is applied to the coil itself so as long as you get the gap completely dry and cleaned your TruExtents pieces will be happy.

Also be aware that Meyer Sound removes the guide pins for the diaphragm so you need to use a tone when centering the diaphragm. While this makes installation a bit trickier it allows you more control when installing the diaphragm.

Glad to hear that. Then its safe to buy the Meyer modified version.

Regarding putting the seal on the voice coil, would not this restrict the voice coil movement to some extent?

Along with the other modifications its going to be interesting to hear them at home.

Thank you for the advice! I have seen som very useful advice on how to proceed with the install. Non magnetic screwdriver is also a top priority. A friend of mine made a dent in one of his Truextents using a magnetic screwdriver (You know who you are..)

I guess earplugs+will be needed.
