I have some 15" K145's that came in cabinets I purchased, and the surrounds are very dirty with all kind of dirt, junk, etc. stuck to them.

I tried cleaning a small area of the surrounds with a damp cloth, and it did help some, but I think I need something stronger.

Anyone have any tips to clean these without running the (pleated cloth?) surrounds.

Thanks!

Use a soft toothbrush dipped in a Woolite/water mix to gently rub along the grooves but don't get any on the cone as it may waterspot. If that doesn't work, let it dry completely then try some WD40 on the toothbrush - WD40 dissolves oils to some extent but is fairly nonaggressive and is not offensive smelling. Use a dry soft cotton cloth or a hair-tipped vacuum tool to absorb any excess or anything that gets on the cone material itself. Do not spray the cone.
I wouldn't use alcohol or Fantastic or CLR or anything that would dry the surround.

I use a (JBL blue) paint brush to clean the dust off the cloth surround of my drivers, and it works perfectly.

Not sure it will be enough in your case though, but it is worth a try, and pretty inoffensive.

Do not use WD40,,,,It might leach into the paper cone,,

The coated surround is not permeable so from experience, as long as you don't get WD40 on the cone it won't go there.
