Guys, a few months ago I purchased a pair of 1245-16 for my 2441's but the midrange bite and contour I liked went south.
I tried different cables and amps but nope, still the same, they just don't sound as transparent as they should, way too polite and they make me crank up the volume more and more to hear the details.

Should I try used 2445 dia's?

Hi martin2395,
I have heard almost the same from a friend of mine, when he had compared 2420&2307&2308 vs 2441AL&2311&2308.
I have 2441 (with Radian1245-16) &2311&2308, and I like it much then 2420&2312&2308, especially while vice reproduction.

Hi Martin;

What did you have in the 2441's previously?

Very worn Ti diaphragms, these went straight to the bin and I ordered the Radians because the original D16R2441 were simply too expensive.

I like the top end beause the 2405H's kick in just in time before the Radians start to roll off (8-9k I guess?). The radians are very, very smooth but I prefer more detail in transparancy in voicing.

Of course I like them a lot better than 2421B with d16r2421 on 2307's. I find it quite difficult to describe the difference but the "2 sounds bigger, more 'royal' and complete. I wonder if it has something to do with time alignment as the short 2311 horn seems to be better time aligned with the other units than a 2307.

Hi Martin2395,

I have done some measurements with two 2441&Radian 1245-16 dia with 2311&2308.
May be can be useful.
It seems to me that around 5kHz some sort of frequency reduction ( about 1~2 dB) has to be applied.

To me it looks like it needs just a small bit of reduction at 5KHz but the frequency around it needs more dB's.

I got offered a single 2450J with original dia for €300. What do you guys think are the odds of finding another one in Europe?

A while ago I changed my original Aluminium diaphragms in my 2420 for Radians and the first two weeks the sound was not as good as it was. After that it became much better, I would not go back to the old Alu ones now. Better highs, but yes, somewhat "softer", not in actual volume but "softer", and better. So maybe it just takes some getting used to. Distortion can be mistaken for bite. Have you measured the output with the old Titaniums, and with the new Radians?

No I did not as I dumped them right away, they had dents and big oxidation.

The 2450J still 'kriebelt' :D I wonder how the D16R2450's sound - ribbed Ti's.

Maybe I should play some Ozzy Osbourne to break the Radians in? They haven't played loud yet ;)

The idea of getting 2450J's was - try the Ti's and if they are not good - swap the dia's and put the D16R2450 in 2441's and sell them.
With 2450 motors I will have a perfect base for truextent dia's in the future.

Yes, play some Ozzy Osbourne at the right volume! Every driver suspension needs breaking in. Not crazy loud, but above regular listening level certainly to get the excursion needed.

I heard from some PA guys that playing very loud really tamed the Ti diaphragm's. Now I know why it did.

Hi martin,

My experience with Ti dias that were PA used for a longer time is that they become less smooth in the lower range, and lack of high FR.
If your 2441 drivers have good AlNiCo magnet strength I think they are very good option for home listening (I think better then 2450 Ne).
You can get good results with Radians 1245 dias using up to 10kHz. Using up to 20kH I think D16R2441 would be the best (but over 1kHz)
or new (or not PA used ) D16R2445, D8R2445. Using ribbed D8R2446/50 I think can be only up to 12kHz.
So without UHF speaker (2405) only candidate can D162441 AL or D16R2445

May be interesting :

http://materion.com/TruextentNewProducts

So may be the price would become comparable with Radian 4-inch diaphragms
