Just in case this slips past un noticed it looks like the Danish Cabinet works , ' Hornslet ' has gone into recievership.
Hornslet are/were the cabinet maker for JBL , Linn , Naim , Proac , Dali etc All top stuff
As a result they are flogging off all the stock of complete or partially finished cabinets.
For anyone wanting to embark on a DIY Everest of most varieties the cabs are there to be had and for LOW money

FYI the prices are in Danish Krone. 1 Dan Kr = 17cents = 11 uk pence = 13 euro cents.

Pair of almost finished DD67000 boxes for 300 quid , holy cow !!!!!!

Here's a couple of pics for interest sake , these are at the early build stage but they have many that are more or less good to go , just need drivers and Hardware ( That of course is another problem )
So don't be late to the party folks , this is one of those never to be seen again moments if you are into homebrew or whatever.

Yes, it's a shame. In this corner of the world we may soon not be able to produce something that requires a lot of labor force. The cost of labor is immense.
Production may be moved China?

There are 15 pairs of everest there. I wonder what is going to happen to the used prices in scandinavia. I think there are people around ready to make easy money out off this and put together something of what is around and sell as the real deal. Just my 2 cents.

This is an amazing opportunity for us DIY's in Scandinavia. I'd be interested in a pair of DD66000 cabinets. I could probably fit an additional pair in the trailer if a fellow forum member would like to pick them up at my place south of Gothenburg to save time and money.

I heard that they are moving the manufacturing to India and cabinets will be made out of wood composite.

As a danish sound geek, it is a shame that they no longer produce the cabinets in Denmark.
But I think all of us Everest dreamers see a opportunity. But isn´t the midtone the challenge. And how to produce the rest of the horn.

But wauuu they look good.

Yes, the horn is definetly the biggest challenge in turning these cabinets to actual speakers. Guido built some clones, maybe he has something to say?

But wauuu they look good.Without the correct drivers any DIYer will only have a speaker that looks like an Everest. Unfortunately JBL no longer supports the DIY community so getting the correct parts is extremely difficult. Even as a dealer, I can not order them except as replacements for damaged units.

As expected prices are running quite high in the end, +$1500 for E2 and +$1000 for K2. Maybe not a bad price for org cabinets, but many are missing frontpanel, there are some scratches and veener faults so It doesn't seem like there will be E2 or K2 for me this time :)

Deal of the day was this, $300 for this:

Cabinets like these went for aprox $2000:

Harman REALLY messed up by letting these cabinets get out on the free market like this. They should have bought and destroyed/recycled them if they had no use for them. This can't be good for the value of current Everest inventory. I find the whole thing a little sad.

I thought all hopes were over... BUT found out later that a friend had bought 6 (!) of the Everest cabinets :bouncy: So it seems like I will get a pair after all!

And to those who are worried, the buyer is not in this for the money, they are more or less already sold to other JBL enthusiast :)

For what I've heard and from the pictures my guess is that most of the cabinets are b-stock with some flaws in the veneer, and maybe that's the reason why Harman didn't care?

I have been drooling over these cabinets for days. Wasn´t that far away, live in south of Sweden. But for me it got to expensive, not that it wasn´t worth it but I have too many projects, to small apartment and if I would spend that cash I would have to live on rice for the next couple of months. Too bad, hope that people can make something good out of them.

I find it very sad for the company and workers who were building these beautiful cabinets for Harman and others.

Regarding JBL value? Get real. These are empty boxes, albeit cool looking boxes, but certainly not JBLs. Without the horns and drivers, these are simply cool looking boxes.

Interestingly, I had the same thoughts the other day. My thinking is that it will devaluate the price of original JBL speakers. Especially that I am sure that the manufacturer also had a contract with JBL not to sell any cabinet directly to the public. The manufacturer may own the wood, but JBL still owns the design and patent on the cabinets. I wonder where all this can go, legally speaking if JBL interjected to the private sale of its design and patent.

I don't think this will have any impact on value of original Everst or K2. Most cabinets seems to have been sold to private homes in either Denmark og Norway and not for further sale as "Everst clones". And I don't think there will many "real clones" as few have the necessary componets, and even so... they will only be a clone :)

Harman made efforts to buy/bail out the Danish business but it ended up not make sense for the involved parties.

Harman doesn't care if people buy the auctioned enclosures.

Harman is currently subjecting very nice looking K2-S9900 and Everest II enclosure samples from a new supplier to environmental testing.

The plan is to continue the models, perhaps dropping a finish or two, but adding in black and white high gloss.

I am sorry, but to me there is only one original Everest and that is DD55000. Nothing will ever have an impact on their value. My opinion, and I have owned a pair.

Just for the fun of it, but I am thinking about using these cabinets upside down, making baffle/box on the bottom to contain a JBL SE408s in each speaker.
Unfortunately the cutouts for the woofers are too small for vintage JBL woofers. I will have to enlarge them for my four JBL D140R drivers

Turning them upside down actually appear to be a very good idea if you cannot (or do no want to) replicate the original horn!
This will rise the woofers a bit off the floor and probably clean the low mid, and you will be able to insert a H9800 on another "small" rectangular horn where the ports are.
What horns are you planning on using?

Don't know if the cutout is different for the newer woofers but you do know you are missing the MDF frontbaffle? This might be an explanation for the cutout? Hopefully I will receive my pair tomorrow :bouncy:

I checked the specs and seems like many of the older 15s have a cutout of 14" while the newer have 13,75", this explains your "problem" :)

There is no photos of ended projects.
Can I assume there has to be some pairs of them unlucky and waiting in garages or basements in darkness?

K2 9900 and especially DD67000 are the most beautyful and clever (the horn solution) cabinets I ever saw.

I still have mine, wrapped up in a corner of the shop.

I signed on to make some of the parts required to complete these and just last week (with my tail between my legs) sent a couple of parts back as I just can’t seem to make the machine time to get them done.

In my wrath last Christmas break I made a pair of horn throats and rear port/terminal plates on my manual Bridgeport mill at home but they are not all they should be and hence not put to use.

It’s sad that project May was dead by the time I got the 4338 horns and throats done.

I don’t have a good track record it seems. :(
