I have a pair of these speakers and quite honestly, they sound awful. How do I removed the front grill to get access to the speakers? Is it a press fit or some hidden screws?

We may not be familiar with that speaker. Do you have some photos?

There have been an awful lot of speakers made over the years with the name ALTEC on them ... is it a large speaker, a bookshelf, or some kind of Altec Desktop speaker?

Are you speaking of these computer speakers?

I would guess Lancer 66... which should be capable of sounding ok...
I don't know whether these had the metal "pin/clips" and would come
loose or there was some other attachment mechanism:

These are not computer monitor speakers but somewhat vintage weatherproofed speakers. Serial numbers 02876 and 02888. Black plastic speaker case. Made in the USA.

Ah, 1991 "vintage":

No idea re getting the grilles off or if it's a worthwhile endeavor. :dont-know:

I'm beginning to envision a Caddyshack moment with total carnage.
