Original white, but the paint is not good so I will add new walnut veneer.

LE8T-2 is in exceptionally good condition, looks like they are recon with original kit.

LE20-1 One is dead. Have two on the shelf I can use.

Crossovers, will replace all components and new terminals.

Do not expect the big sound experience, but do not think there are many JBL S109 Aquarius 4 over here so I will take care of them.

I'm waiting for a pair of Aquarius 3's ... last ones for sale went too high :(

The cone in that woofer looks like the cone for the LE8T, and if it is it is not right for that speaker. Don't know how that would play out. Might be OK, but I s'pects it'll be bass heavy. The -2 (also 2115) is 11 grams and 6.8 BL, the 8T 16 and 6.2. That cabinet would be designed around the lighter cone.

Do not know.
As you probably understand, I bought them used.
Behind the cone there is a decal which reads J721-05378, on the other J721-05409

I can't tell anything from those numbers. Someone else might be able to. I think the frames are the same, so either cone will fit. The 2115/LE8T-2 cone kit was NLA several years ago. It could be that what you have there, in effect, is a pair of LE8T's, not a bad thing.

Crossovers

The 10 W resistors has been very warm, have been brown.

Will installing new 20w
New Polypropylene capacitors with .01 uF bypass
New air coils
L-pads were good, possibly replaced earlier.

New parts in place. Used parts I had lying around. Looks chaotic as the original.
No new pictures.

I already noticed that phenomenon with old JBL networks - the resistors getting black, mine got so warm that they melted the foam filling.

A little progress.
Finer job with help from a professional
Sanding and oiling remains.

+1

Just for reference here are some photos of the original driver type. These are the drivers from my own queued-up S109 restoration project:

Yes, my LE8T-2 has been recon with the wrong cone kit. Do not know when.
I will test them, and see what can be done.
Maybe I need to find a new pair.

I would probably just try them first. It might be all right.

Very nice Odd!!

What kind of veneer did you use?:
- wood type?
- glue or hot iron?
- what oil will you use?

They look good!!!

Great job Odd!

I wouldn't bother with looking for another LE8 if yours play fine.
As they say - if it ain't broke, don't fix it :D

Maybe it's just an older/newer production run? I searched for LE8T-2 on Google and found both white and brown cones so yours could actually be original.

As speakerdave points out, the cone is heavier. Possibly it is good with some eksta bass from an 8 inch.
I try it out before I decide what to do.

I'm no expert on woodworking, as you can see above, I had to have help.
It is used walnut wood veneer from Veneers Online Ltd, UK.
It seems that it is of good quality.
Are advised to use Liberon Finishing Oil.
We'll see if it gets good results.

Great veneer job , these are goig to look wonderful. :)

Liberon is a good easy to use finish , no problens. Use thin coats like Tru Oil

I had a pair of these for a long time and enjoyed them , great fun , very spatial.

Wow! Your veneer-guy really knows his job!!
I like that he made/put the "drawing" of the veneer the same on the left and the right speaker.

An eye for detail !

They were set up for test today and l am amazed how well they sound.
Much better than expected.
LE8 “something”, might be a bit bass heavy as “speakerdave” assumed, but since the bass port is on the back you can adjust a bit with the distance to the wall behind.

They have a typical JBL bass sound.
And the old LE 20-1 works really well in this setup.

They are also a nice piece of furniture.

Aquarius Lyrics

Written by Norreen, Claus / Rasted, Soren.

When the moon is in the seventh house
And Jupiter aligns with Mars
And peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars
This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius
Age of Aquarius

Aquarius, Aquarius

Harmony and understanding, sympathy and trust abounding
No more false hoods or derisions, golden living dreams of visions
Mystic crystal revelations, and the mind's true liberations

Aquarius, Aquarius

Thanks for the lyrics.
Yes, I remember this song.

I mentioned it because a well remastered version I have sounds awesome on my 4412's with a soundstage huge and deep.

With the "Hair" Broadway play's popularity and this song high on the charts all things Aquarius were "the rage" and possibly an inspiration for the JBL series title. I'll check the timeline.

Best Regards
