Hello Everyone,
This is my first post here and I'm looking for some advice. I recently purchased what I thought were JBL C-36 speakers. Admittedly, I didn't know anything about JBL speakers and it was one of those deals that the price was so good, I jumped on it. I had no chance to listen to them or check them out very closely, I just grabbed them and went home. When I got home the painful discoveries started showing up. I removed the woofers, and I did get 2 D123's, so that's OK, when i removed the tweeters, I found that the previous owner had replaced the LE20's with some MTX tweeters, I was very disappointed. I removed the crossovers and they were labeled LX-2, however when I opened them up, they were gutted and had some 'off the shelf' crossover made in Taiwan. To top it off, after seeing some of pictures of actual JBL cabinet, these look pretty cheap to me.

I was pretty disappointed for a couple days, not to mention that I really didn't want to hook them up given the state of the x-over. I rebuilt the x-over to the LX-2 spec, hooked them up and did some listening. Not really all that impressed, I do realize that the tweeter is...well who knows what it is.

I would like to replace the tweeter, but I have seen some opinions of the LE20 and I have some doubts. I guess I'm looking for some recomendations, I thought maybe I'd try to pickup a pair of LE25's, I'd like to stay JBL. Then I thought maybe I should make this a 3-way system. I really don't want to spend a large amount of money, and started thinking maybe I should scrap it altogether.

What do you guys think? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you,
Paul

Keep the D123. Get a pair of 075 or one inch drivers with horns.
