Hooked up my 4430s that I just purchased, The high end sounds good but they seem to lack bass. The 2235s were re build by an authorized Jbl Shop. Any suggestions folks?

What amp are you using with them, the FPB400?

Both woofers in phase with each other?

Yes The Krell and I checked both woofers. Maybe I will pull out the crossovers and check them

Maybe they need to be broken in?

If you have an interface (like the Focusrite Scarlett i2i (http://www.thomann.de/se/focusrite_scarlett_2i2.htm)) and Limp from Arta (http://www.artalabs.hr/download.htm), you can make an impedance sweep of the box. And also measure the 2235 Thiele-Small parameters.

Well I pulled out the horns and found out the drivers are 2421A instead of the 2426h. Are the 2421s any good?

I bet some would say that they are even better (Alnico vs ferrite and Al dia vs Ti dia in the 2426)

The 2421 is an older body than the 2426. I had a pair years ago and they were fine drivers for the day. Where did you get the 2426? According to this (http://www.jblpro.com/pub/obsolete/443035.pdf), the 4430 shipped with the 2425 driver.

It sounds like you might have been played with different drivers.... What part number are the woofers?

Typo on the 2426h (2425h) Woofers are 2235h.

Yeah, Martin, some would say that Alnico sounds better than Ferrite, but I don't get that logic from a physics perspective. Hopefully, the magnet doesn't make any sound. All it does is provide a field to secure the movement of the diaphragm. The 2421 has 15000 gauss whereas the 2425 has 17000 gauss and the 2426 has 18000 gauss. One would assume that this significant difference was important to achieving better sound or they (JBL) wouldn't have spent more money in the magnet structure.

Still, I'm sure there will be some that say Alnico sounds better. Perhaps its because they like a more relaxed sound. The higher gauss levels will return the diaphragm to the center position a lot faster than a less capable magnet.

Sorry for taking the thread off topic for a second...

Are the 2235's official JBL recone kits or some aftermarket look alike?

Factory re cone. I have to address the L pads. the mid freq. pads seem to be bad.

2421A is just what came in an earlier 4430...
I would look at it as a bonus if they weren't played hard
or had Ti diaphragms swapped in.

How have you got the enclosure positioned in the listening room and where is the listening position?

Great post Ivica. I hadn't read that and they make some interesting points. I guess this is where the line, "your mileage may vary" comes in to play...

polarity/phasing ? Exactly my thoughts too ;-)

Well I pulled out the crossovers out and the switch for bi-Amping seems to be really corroded on both of hem. I think I will eliminate those and re-cap the crossovers.
