Please help me ID these 2245's

I have the opportunity to buy this 2245 for $230. This is described as a aftermarket recone. Kinda hard to see from the picture. Does this have the proper backing on the cone?

To be honest, you are better off buy a pair of good frames and having them re coned. No questions then.

If I were you, I would spend $40 on a good frame and have it reconed with a JBL recone kit for, say, $260 or something. At the end, you have an original and cherry $300.00 2245h... Sure, you can also buy a $40 core and spend $80 on a Mackenzie recone if your goal is to experiment. And there would be nothing wrong with that either. But it will not be a true 2245h.

The recone work in the picture above is nicely done. Nice glue bead around the dome. But it remains a non-original 2245... It will probably work fine though... It's up to you, my friend.

Also, if you have a fetish for the 2245h, try getting a basket with the aluminum foilcal and rubber bumper at the back. Having the cork gasket also is a plus. ;-)

It appears not. Lee's picture appears correct. Without the aquaplas it is an approximation and will not sound the same in all applications.

I'll comment similarly to the other responses: if you just want an 18" driver, then a 2245 frame is a nice place to start;
if you want a 2245, you need the JBL cone kit installed.

My friend and just did the side by side with an aftermarket 2245H and a real freshly reconed 2245H in a B460 and there is a difference in the sound and how low it will go. The JBL cone sounds more natural as well especially with a 12db slope on the XO.
