Some of you may have heard the harrowing story of the partial arrival of my recent purchase. It involved the (almost unscathed) acquisition of JBL 4435 studio monitors and the accompanying (but non materialized) JBL M552 External Crossover. This crossover was lost in shipping by the shipping company; it simply vanished. With it was (sadly) the original manual for the 4435s and the M552 crossover, as well as proprietary info written about the items from a former JBL employee, which of course must be priceless.

For insurance purposes, I need to find a value on these items. Starting with the M552 Crossover, I simply cannot track one down, nor can I find a value, nor can I ascertain the years of its manufacture. A while back, there was a very weather beaten looking one on eBay for $199, but the one I had purchased was like a museum piece. I found a brochure for the 4435s, but it's in Japanese! No manuals for the M552 either.

I have little doubt that this information is readily available, but for the life of me, I cannot seem to locate it anywhere. You folks have been extremely helpful in the past, so if anyone out there could provide some assistance during these trying times, it would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

I don't recognize the JBL 522 number, so I'm guessing you mean the JBL M552 Electronic Crossover?

Yes, you are correct. Sans typo, it should read the M552. Thanks much for the PDF, but in fact that is the ONLY thing I have been able to find on this piece. I don't know when it was made and I am still looking for its original MSRP cost plus a selling price for that piece today. Anybody? Thanks one and all!

There's one sitting on ebay right now with no bids at $160. There are some rack mount marks.

Thank you! Would you mind posting a link? I try JBL M552, M 552, electronic crossover, dividing network, etc., and there is no crossover M552 unit that I can find, and I look every day! Thanks again!

I saved a number of old dealer JBL/UREI price lists from the 80's and put them into a single binder *somewhere* in the shop...I'll look and see if it's easily reachable and post a pic of that page.

here are both links to the info online:

http://www.jblproservice.com/pdf/M-Series%20Electronics/M552.pdf

BTW the standard crossover used for the studio monitors was the 5235 with the 4430/4435 cards installed. An option of changing the crossover point isn't a good idea for those speakers since it's easy to *pop* a diaphram if the point is too low.

It looks like 160 is the magic number.

It looks like 160 is the magic number. It looks like $172 and climbing at this point. Thank you very much indeed!!! Even now when I use my eBay page (USA), I get NO crossovers with JBL M552 in ALL CATEGORIES, Musical Equip, Pro Audio, etc!!! I don't get it! I replicate your title and search category right down to the spacing and upper case letters! Who can figure this one out!!???

Just got it! You had checked "completed listings", mine was searching for active ones. Thanks again!

You can do "sold" listings only now too. It sure looks like the same unit sold several times. If yours doesn't have those gouge marks from rack mounting it should be worth closer to $200 IMO.

Thank again. Yes, the one that the Freight Company lost was as "virgin" as one could get. NEVER Rack Mounted, always cared for, and MINT, with all the original paperwork. If you can picture the piece he had that accompanied these:
