View Full Version : Altec N-3000-E xover/dividing network problems

I have a N-3000-E 2-way cross-over for my Altec 601C, and am experiencing strange results from my tests. I used an oscillator on the xover IN; both the HF leads and the LF leads passed practically full range signals. (the HF lead started to roll-off at 350hz, but sill...) I happen to have two more identical N-3000-E xovers in my shop...long story short, All three crossovers had the exact same results. Obviously, the Altec 601C is a 60's, 2-way conical design. Is there something about the N3000E/601C design I don't know about? I've tested tons of passive crossovers this way and have never had an xover respond this way. Insight? Thank you.

p.s. I very briefly(4seconds) hooked up the xover to the 601c and pass a low full range signal through it, and it sounded like shit.

Were the outputs loaded with the appropriate impedance (for example, 8 ohms)?
