My question are simple. can a 4" ferrite motor be screwed onto a frame born with a 4" Alnico motor? or are the screw pattern different?

I think the ferrite motors are larger then the alnico motor. So I bet the bolt pattern is different.

Not all 4" drivers are the same but all JBL 2" exit drivers have the same bolt pattern. These specs are published, just check for the model you are considering.

Nick is correct about the outer diameter of the ferrite drivers, they are significantly larger than the alnico or neodymium drivers... but the bolt patters are based on the horn series expected to be used, not the motor diameter.

The OP seems to be asking about woofers, in which case, the answer is no.

all the alnico and ferrite 4" coil magnets are interchangeable BUT BUT the older K and D frames will allow only the narrower diameter magnet.

The ferrite frames, however will allow any magnet - as will the LE14A

I have a pair of custom built LE14H-2's that have a LE14A frame I painted...:)
