I have a JBL MS112 2 way speaker (http://www.jblproservice.com/pdf/marquis series/ms112wh.pdf) that I picked up cheap because it has a blown HF diaphragm, however, when I opened it up to inspect further I see one of the caps had burst.

I've done a google search and can't find any 2.5J 250V caps. I asked an electrical tech friend, and he'd never heard of 2.5J, but he's not an audio guy. I emailed JBL tech support, but they never returned my message. I'm just looking for the proper replacement, if anyone has any insight, it would be much appreciated.

thanks!

Well, that's ( very goofy ) shorthand for a 2.5 uF cap.

J = +or- , 5% tolerance of the cap value

250V is the dc voltage rating .

I've never seen one that looked like that before. Were they abused?
