Hi all I've built a Fender deluxe reverb clone geetar amplifier head, next task is the cabinet and speaker installation. I can build any size cab/baffle I want

JBLS are my favourite instrument speakers, when I can get 'em
I have a D130 (audio version paper surround(no goop) silver dust cover)
and a few D123s..
i like all of them
I'm wondering if the 22 watt deluxe will be too much for the D123s

I'm pretty sure the D130 could handle it ..but as it's a non 'F' version, no dope smaller voice coil gap I think
i wonder about it too

Any opinions or experience with these combinations?

My buddy is running a D130 ( with goop ) non F version , with great success from a Roland Cube 60. In the BF position it sounds very Fenderish like a Showman cab.
I built the box for him , 750 tall , 600 wide , 300 deep.
It has an old fashioned vent 100 x 400 on the front baffle.

It sounds great BTW

Search this site and you'll find the JBL engineer behind the D130F singing the praises of the D123 as a guitar transducer.

Undoubtedly they both sound excellent but I think the D123 is a bit nicer sounding. THe D130 seem more middy. They're both in open back cabs right now.
My concern with the D123 is that it's rating 25 watts I believe is pretty close to what the Deluxe can put out.
I don't want to pop it!
Would a closed and ported cab be a better option?

Actually, the D123 has a higher power rating of 50 watts. But, I suspect that if you really push it over the cliff. You could still blow it up.

Nigel: "You see, most blokes will be playing at 10. You’re on 10, all the way up, all the way up...Where can you go from there? Nowhere. What we do, is if we need that extra push over the cliff...Eleven. One louder."
