I plan on adding 2405 tweeters to my L200b speakers and was wondering if I will need the "brackets" to secure them properly. From pictures I have seen they appear to go on the inside of the baffleboard but I did see one picture with the brackets installed on the front of the baffleboard. Are they necessary and where is the correct location to mount the brackets for the 2405 tweeters?

The original 2405, introduced around 1970 used a separate mounting bracket that was a collar mounted on the outside face of the baffle. Starting around 1974, all subsequent 2405's had a mounting bracket integral to the driver. This bracket is just a square plate extending from the circular horn housing with four screw holes. The plate is intended to be flush mounted against the rear face of the baffle.

From your post, I infer that you have yet to pick up a set of 2405's. If so, it is much easier to find the post 1974 model with the integral mounting bracket. They are far more numerous than the earlier version. In fact, it is a very rare occurance to find the original version on Ebay.

If for some reason you do go with the earlier version, make sure that they include the mounting brackets. JBL has long since stopped making them available. They do show up occaisionally on Ebay, but due to their rarity, are extrordinarily expensive.

My think is to put them backside and flat !! with the front panel.

Don many thanks for the reply explaining the 2405 mounting brackets. I'm fairly certain the 2405 tweeters will be the post 1974 nodels with the integral mounting plate. My local JBL pro shop has two pairs of older 2405 tweeters that I'll be checking out next week and I'll know if they require a bracket.

The mounting plate for inside the box is attached with 4 screws. The photo is an older alnico. You sometimes see them without the plate. Chances are they do but you don't want to find out after the fact. That is the same one they use on the 2405H and it is removable there too.
